Connecting your keyboard

MIDICast works with any MIDI keyboard. The only question is which cable or adapter gets yours talking to your iPhone or iPad. Find your keyboard below.

Most keyboards: a square “USB to Host” port

Nearly every keyboard made in the last ~15 years has a square USB-B port on the back (often labeled USB to Host). You need a USB-B to USB-C cable, about $10. Find one on Amazon.

Older keyboards: round 5-pin MIDI ports

If your keyboard only has the classic round 5-pin MIDI In/Out ports, you need a MIDI-to-USB interface, about $20–40. Stick to known brands (Roland, iConnectivity, M-Audio); the very cheapest no-name ones drop notes. Find one on Amazon.

No cables at all: Bluetooth MIDI

A Bluetooth MIDI adapter (Yamaha MD-BT01 for 5-pin ports, CME WIDI for either) plugs into your keyboard and pairs wirelessly with MIDICast, about $40–60. Find one on Amazon.

One more thing about your phone’s port

USB-C iPhones and iPads take the cables above directly. If your device has a Lightning port, add Apple’s Lightning-to-USB (“camera”) adapter between the cable and your phone.
